Unbelievably broken and unbalanced.Īs for the Game Gear games (I played and own the most of these on Game Gear before I played the Gems versions): Basically it's just a "whoever gets the first hit wins" kind of fighting games. Sonic the Fighters - This is really just a poor game overall, I would have expected better from the people that made Virtua Fighter 2, Fighting Vipers, and Fighters Megamix. I also like the Day/Night and Weather patterns not featured in the Saturn version. Much better graphically than on the Saturn, and the controls are tightened, which makes the game better overall. Sonic R - I've loved Sonic R since I first played it on PC, and the Gems version is just as good. I think the Special Stages are some of the best though in a Sonic game. The level design is really confusing though, but I managed to get all good futures up to the very last level "Metallic Madness", but I haven't been able to beat that one yet. I warmed up to it though, I will say that. I then tried it on Sega CD with a Genesis controller and found it to be a bit better, although still not as good as the other Sonic games. Sonic CD - I got Gems and was ready to play thinking this was going to be a fantastic Sonic game, but was disappointed. I agree with some of your opinions, but here's my take on Gems (Based off of the Gamecube version): Lesson learned: never, EVER, give Sonic Team the chance to emulate both Vectormans What about the Vectorman games in this collection? Well, they're one thing in here: HO-FUCKING-RRENDOUSLY EMULATED. Tails' Adventures: decent action game with Tails

Suffers from a bit of slowdown and flicker, but apparently that's how the game is, according to the 2-Bit Gaming video about the GG Sonic Spinball Game Gear: horrendous choppy sometimes glitchy P.O.S. Sonic 2 Game Gear: pretty good for an early handheld Sonic. Now, some short thoughts/opinions about them: Davis for it.Īnd then there are the six Game Gear games and both Vectorman titles. Also, like I said in the A Winner Is You 2010 thread, the music is AMAZING. If this game would have been released nowadays they would have put assholes like Big the Cat, Shadow, Silver, Rouge or even Werewolf Sonic.

And speaking of characters, thankfully it has the classic characters! None of the guys from Sonic the Fighters, Sonic Drift 2, Sonic in Triple Trouble or Chaotix are here, just Sonic, Tails, Knuckles, Robotnik and Amy (including Super and Metal Sonic, Puppet Tails, Robo Knuckles and that robot that appeared in Knuckles' intro on S&K). They made a very good racing game with some very good courses that have plenty of shortcuts and secret routes which contain Sonic coins and Chaos Emeralds so that you can get the unlockable characters. Traveller's Tales nailed it with this one. Then comes the awesome game in the collection: Sonic R. Also, the levels are confusing as hell, the bonus stages are bad (the bonus stages from the first two, Blue Sphere and 3D Blast's bonus stage are better), the way you use the spindash is pretty crap (you have to wait 'till it charges), but the most important thing: WHY IN THE HOLY FUCKING RADIKAL BIKERS SUCKINESS DID SEGA PUT THE WHOLE PAST/FUTURE BULLSHIT? IT BREAKS THE WHOLE FLOW OF THE FUCKING GAME! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it is terrible or anything (Sonic the Hedgehog on GBA, I'm looking at you.), it's just dissapointing. It wasn't as awesome as everybody said it was. Then, there's pretty much the reason why this compilation was made: Sonic CD. Although the number of Emeralds is messed up: they should be 7, not 8 (unless it's one from Sonic 3 & Knuckles). well, actually it pretty much is VF, since it was built around it and it was developed by AM2 (Sega's best division. No Sonic 2 on the best games list and Sonic R as the worst = FAIL). I was actually surprised: it wasn't as bad as everybody said it was (eg: ScrewAttack and their pretty bad Best and Worst Sonic Games list. The first game that I tried was the first on the games list: Sonic the Fighters.

It was the Japanese version, but since my PS2 is modchipped (to play backup/pirated copies ) and is American it appeared in English (and was missing Bonanza Bros and the SoR games EDIT: oh wait, THEY STILL ARE! WOOOO!), but the Game Gear games were still the Japanese versions. On Monday I got (read: downloaded and burned to a DVD) the Sonic Gems Collection for the PS2.
